Well, week one sort of sucked! I have had to front all of the shipping charges because paypal won't release my funds for twenty-one days or until the buyers leave positive feedback and/or paypal gets around to confirming that the packages have reached their destinations. I'm so glad paypal has decided to get into the shipping police business. They should just leave me alone, save themselves the effort, and charge less money for the "service" they provide.
To top it off, eBay has actually already sent me an invoice for fees incurred so far. Seriously? They own paypal (or vice versa), the same company who is holding my money ransom, and they have the nerve to send me a bill for fees that they won't give me access to. Somethings is seriously wrong with this entire system.
Anyway, here's a breakdown of the 12" Star Wars Action Figures I listed:
(1) Star Wars 12" Darth Vader - Sold for $20.00 and charged $6.50 for shipping, for a total of $26.50. eBay fees (including the insertion and final value fees) were $2.10, paypal fees were $1.07, and actual shipping costs were $8.00, for a total of $11.17. Net realized: $15.33.
(2) Star Wars 12" Luke Bespin - Sold for $4.99 and charged $6.50 for shipping, for a total of $11.49. eBay fees were $0.79, paypal fees were $0.63, and actual shipping costs were $7.42, for a total of $8.84. Net realized: $2.65.
The next two items I sold to the same buyer: (3) Star Wars 12" Sandpeople (with Stick) - Sold for $8.50. eBay fees were $1.09. (4) Star Wars 12" Sandpeople (with Gun) - Sold for $5.51. eBay fees were $0.83. For these two items, I charged $8.50 shipping, for a total to me of $22.51. The paypal fees were $0.95 and the actual shipping was $8.98. Net realized for both toys: $10.66.
(5) Star Wars 12" Ben Kenobi - Sold for $6.24. eBay fees were $0.90. Paypal fees were $0.67. Actual shipping charges were $6.10 (I charged $6.50 for shipping). Net realized: $11.17.
(6) Star Wars 12" Luke Farmboy - Sold for $7.05. eBay fees were $0.97. BUYER HASN'T PAID YET. Net realized: $Unknown (for now).
(7) Star Wars 12" Han Solo - Sold for $8.50, plus $15.00 shipping. eBay fees were $1.09. Paypal fees were $1.22. Actual shipping charges were $16.90. Net realized: $4.29.
(8) Star Wars 12" Lando - Did not sell. eBay fees were $0.35. I'm going to relist it so maybe it will sell the second time...
As you can see, my initial though that I had made $51.84 that I could use to pay towards the credit card (or purchase additional inventory) was flawed. When I backed out all of my actual expenses, these auctions netted me a grand total of $44.10. Like I said, week one sucked!

I've sold many, many items through EBay over the last several years. They are really getting to be a rip off. There fees are way to much. Not to mention, if someone decides to not pay for their purchase, you can still get the final value fee back, but not the cost of the auction itself. Paypal fees are outrageous. Sellers are having to charge more on their items to make a profit, and buyers don't want to pay that extra.
